Half-Day Hippo-Camp Tour Costa Rica is an unforgettable 2.5-hour horseback riding adventure that combines the beauty of the South Caribbean coastline with the unique experience of swimming with rescued horses. Starting from our stables in Playa Cocles, Puerto Viejo, this ethical horseback riding tour follows spectacular Caribbean beaches and coastal rainforest trails before reaching the safest location for an unforgettable horse swimming experience.
Riding along the beautiful coastline, you’ll discover pristine beaches, lush tropical vegetation and the incredible biodiversity that makes Puerto Viejo one of Costa Rica’s most remarkable destinations. Along the way, you may spot sloths, monkeys, toucans, macaws, iguanas and many other native species living in their natural habitat.
Once we reach a suitable location with calm sea conditions, the saddles are removed so both horses and riders can enjoy swimming together in a safe, respectful and natural way. Our horses are never forced to enter the water. Their comfort, confidence and well-being always come first, making this experience as enjoyable for them as it is for you.
After the swim, both horses and riders take time to relax before beginning the scenic ride back along the Caribbean coast. Throughout the experience, your professional guide will share information about the local ecosystem, Caribbean culture and the horse rescue project that makes Caribe Horse unique.
Important: This experience depends on calm sea conditions and good underwater visibility. If weather or ocean conditions make horse swimming unsafe, the tour will be enjoyed as our Half-Day Beach & Jungle Horseback Riding Tour, and the price will be adjusted accordingly.
