TOURS & RESERVATION GUIDELINES
To ensure safety, comfort and the well-being of our horses, we kindly ask all guests to follow these guidelines.
For all horseback riding tours, we recommend wearing long pants and closed, comfortable shoes. For safety reasons, backpacks are not allowed during the ride, as branches in the rainforest may get caught. A small waist bag is recommended instead. We also suggest using sun protection and mosquito repellent.
Our experiences are suitable for all riding levels. Helmets are provided and mandatory for riders under 18 years old.
Weight limits are strictly respected to protect the health of our horses:
- Beach & rainforest tours: maximum 215 lbs / 95 kg
- Swimming tour: maximum 190 lbs / 85 kg
Please inform us in advance of any health conditions or special requirements.
RESERVATIONS & ETHICAL COMMITMENT
To confirm your reservation, we require a deposit. This is essential to guarantee your booking and to allow us to carefully plan each experience.
Caribe Horse is not a mass tourism operation. Each tour is organized according to the specific needs of our horses, including workload, rider weight and overall balance. For this reason, we operate in small or private groups only.
When a reservation is confirmed, we reserve dedicated time, horses and guides, often declining other requests. Last-minute cancellations or no-shows directly impact the organization and the well-being of our horses.
As a rescue project, every booking contributes directly to the care, nutrition and long-term welfare of our horses, including those who are retired and no longer part of the tours.
We appreciate your understanding and respect for our work, which is built on responsibility, professionalism and ethical horsemanship.

HORSEBACK RIDING TOURS
We offer ethical horseback riding tours of different durations, including short rides, half-day and full-day experiences, designed to suit different schedules, preferences and riding levels.
Located in the South Caribbean of Costa Rica, our tours take place between pristine beaches and tropical rainforest, in areas such as Puerto Viejo, Cocles, Playa Chiquita, Punta Uva and Manzanillo, in the Talamanca region.
Each experience is carefully planned with the well-being of our horses as the priority. Based on our deep knowledge of each horse’s character, condition and training, we select the most suitable partner for every rider, ensuring a safe, balanced and respectful experience.
Our tours are suitable for all levels, from beginners to experienced riders. Helmets are provided, and safety standards are strictly respected.
We operate exclusively in small or private groups, allowing us to offer a more personal, high-quality experience while respecting the natural rhythm and needs of our horses.
You will explore rainforest trails, observe wildlife and ride along some of the most beautiful Caribbean beaches in Costa Rica, experiencing the environment in a natural and low-impact way.

MULTI-DAY EXPERIENCES
We offer multi-day horseback riding experiences designed for guests who wish to connect more deeply with horses and nature.
These experiences are fully customized and may include a combination of different rides, allowing you to explore the Caribbean beaches, rainforest and surrounding areas at a relaxed and immersive pace.
Multi-day programs are organized on request and adapted to your level, preferences and availability, always respecting the well-being, limits and workload of our horses.
A more extended expedition experience may be available upon request. Please note that certain routes depend on external logistics and availability, and may be subject to change.

A longer version of the 2.5-hour Beach & Jungle Tour, designed for more experienced riders seeking a greater adventure. Ride along the South Caribbean coast, discovering stunning beaches including Cocles, Playa Chiquita, Punta Uva, Punta Uva Arrecife, and Playa Grande, as well as lush rainforest trails.
Small groups and professional guides ensure safety, ethical treatment of rescued horses, and a deep connection with nature. Children are welcome from 12 years old, while beginners should consider shorter tours.

Hippo-camp Half Day Tour

Duration: 2.5 hours riding + ocean swim
The Hippocamp Tour starts with a ride along the beaches and rainforest trails, selecting the safest spot for swimming with the horses. Once at the location, saddles are removed for an extraordinary ocean swim, allowing horses and riders to enjoy a playful, ethical interaction in the water.
Horses are never forced; their comfort and enjoyment are always prioritized. After the swim, horses often relax and cool down before returning.
Important: This tour depends on calm sea conditions and good visibility. If conditions are unsuitable, the tour is completed as a standard beach & jungle ride, with payment adjusted to the experience provided.
Children are welcome from 8 years old, making this a safe yet unique adventure for slightly older kids and adults seeking a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Our Full Day Tour is a complete experience that will take you throughout the South Caribbean. An all day ride that will allow you discover all the beauty of our South Caribbean coast, the beaches, the jungle and its incredible wildlife from the back of our sweet and happy horses. An unforgettable experience, you won’t to miss! The tour is the perfect experience for the more expert riders and real horses lovers. Lunch and a soft drink/beer in one of the restaurant along the beaches are included.

Considerations to Take into Account
Caribe Horse is an organization that, through the services it offers, guarantees high-quality care, proper nutrition, veterinary attention, and a second life to horses rescued from different adverse situations. These horses are now part of our family. The main goal of Caribe Horse is love and respect for horses. Participating in one of our ethical horseback riding tours or activities means directly supporting rescued horses.
Our horses are well-trained, our equipment is imported and high-quality, and our staff is qualified and certified, ensuring every guest enjoys the best possible horseback riding experience in Costa Rica. We also support the local community, involving local horse owners in our project to promote ethical horse care and provide them with income to maintain the expensive care that horses require.
Important: only reservations made directly through Caribe Horse are fully covered by our insurance, legal permits, and municipal authorizations. All collaborators (instructors or guides) work under the supervision and responsibility of Caribe Horse, and all horses remain under our veterinary review and care.
Caribe Horse grants participating horse owners the full income from the activity, excluding taxes and insurance. Caribe Horse does not seek financial gain; our sole objective is to guarantee proper care, nutrition, and ethical treatment for our rescued horses.
Reservations made directly with collaborators, without informing Caribe Horse, represent unauthorized use of our name, facilities, equipment, and horses. This practice endangers client safety, violates legal requirements, and is a serious breach of responsibility. Please report any such situation to our management.
Proper planning and scheduling of all activities allows us to respect the needs of our horses and guides, prevent overbooking, and provide a safe and enjoyable experience for every guest. Due to the high level of care we provide, each tour requires adequate preparation time, making last-minute bookings impossible.
By joining our tours and activities, you are not only experiencing ethical horseback riding in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica, but also supporting the well-being, rescue, and lifelong care of our horses.
Caribe Horse Cancellation Policy
The Cancellation Policy considers all the specific conditions of the area, such as, for example, the obligation of not being able to create large groups, which implies that each reservation and cancellation is of fundamental importance.
•There are no penalties for cancellation notified up to 90 days before the tour.
• 20% penalties for cancellation notified up to 60 days before the tour.
• Penalties of 50% for cancellation notified up to 45 days before the tour.
• Penalties of 60% for cancellation notified up to 30 days before the tour.
• Penalties of 80% for cancellation notified up to 15 days before the tour.
• 100% penalties for cancellation notified less than 72 hours before the tour.
**The tours are also guaranteed in case of rain, since we are in the rainforest. There is no refund in case of cancellation or client no-show due to weather.
Only in the event of dangerous weather conditions for the safety of clients and horses, will the tour be suspended.**
**The swimming with the horses included in the Hippo Camp Tours always depends on the unpredictable weather and sea conditions that can change even during it.
