Puerto Viejo is the largest tourist destination on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. It is known for its relaxed atmosphere, beautiful beaches and Rasta influence. Attracting tourists from all over the world looking to experience the many facets of the town: a mix of Afro-Caribbean, Bribri Indian, Tico cultures and, more recently, home to international hippies, this small port town is an anthropological experience.

In addition to its multicultural identity, Puerto Viejo has 20 kilometers of stunning white sand beaches and protected tropical vegetation due to its proximity to 2 national parks. The nearby Cahuita National Park and the Gandoca-Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge offer visitors the opportunity to observe wildlife in their habitat, both terrestrial and maritime.
